7/7/11: Labor of Love Walk Takes New Strides
CCC’s Fundraising Walk for Kids Expands Focus, Adds More Fun
ROANOKE , VA --A new location, more entertainment, and a cookout lunch are some of the changes CCC’s Labor of Love Walk has incorporated to attract more walkers and sponsors for the event’s third year.
Labor of Love will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5th. Walkers will travel a two-mile loop on the Roanoke River Greenway beginning at the Reserve Avenue Field and turning around at Smith Park. Walkers will then return to the field for lunch, children’s activities, and entertainment. Adults can walk for $10, and children are $5. Each registered walker will receive a t-shirt and lunch.
“We hope families will see this as a fun activity for all ages and a way to enjoy the holiday,” says Alison Hammond, CCC Public Relations Specialist. “It’s a celebration but also an important way to raise money to help the hundreds of children we see each year through our programs.”
Labor of Love began in 2009 as a fundraiser for Refugee and Immigrant Services. When RIS joined Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC) last year, it only made sense to expand the walk to support all programs that benefit children. These include Refugee Resettlement and the School Liaison program plus Treatment Foster Care, Adoption, Supervised Visitation, Saint Francis House, and many others.
Labor of Love is open to anyone who would like to participate, including individuals, families, and student groups. Entertainment will include music, face-painting, and family-friendly games. For more information call (540) 342-0411 or visit www.cccofva.org.
