Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy offers a variety of human services including information and referral, advocacy, equipment demonstration, public education and facilitation of communication.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy staff assist in resolving life issues caused by communication difficulties of deafness or hearing loss. Since most business and service staff have minimal knowledge of American Sign Language or devices used by the deaf and hard of hearing, resolution of complex issues may be very difficult. Examples are mediating landlord/tenant disputes, clarifying situations with employment and resolving problems with creditors.

Public Education
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advocacy advocates public awareness of deafness in the community. Please call us to provide:
  • Informational presentations to civic organizations
  • Educational sessions to businesses that employ persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Education programs in schools to let children who are Deaf and their hearing parents know about resources available
  • Sign language classes to businesses and individuals
  • Client assistance for the Central Virginia Lions Hearing Aid Bank

Outreach services for the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Contact us via email.
