Q: What is pregnancy counseling?
A: Pregnancy counseling is working with a professional social worker who provides support, information and answers to your questions related to you and your baby’s needs.
Q: Will this service cost me anything?
A: No. There is no charge for pregnancy counseling at Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC).
Q: Do I need to be Catholic?
A: No. All faiths and denominations are welcome at CCC.
Q: Must I choose adoption if I use the services of CCC?
A: No. Our trained counselors will help you consider all of your options; you choose what is best for you and your child.
Q: If I choose an adoption plan, do I get to choose the adoptive family for my child?
A: Yes. As you approach your due date your social worker will present waiting adoptive families for you to review. You may also choose to meet a potential adoptive family before making a final decision. Every effort is made to protect and honor your wishes.
Q: How do I know my baby will be matched with a good family?
A: Many families are unable to have children. Our Agency screens prospective adoptive families through evaluations and interview processes. Each family is prepared for parenthood by Catholic Charities’ staff; they are ready to love and raise a child.
Q: What about the baby’s father?
A: CCC works with both parents either separately or together in planning for your baby’s future and needs.
Q: Will I wonder about my child?
A: Most likely, yes. And that’s okay. You have made a courageous decision for the future of your child. You are able to request pictures and updates of your child, so you can be assured that your child is happy and doing well in the family you selected for him/her.
Q: If I feel I need to speak to someone about this, how soon do I need to contact Catholic Charities?
A: You may contact us anytime. We are able to assist you in the planning for you and your child anytime during your pregnancy or thereafter. Feel free to send us an e-mail requesting information. The pregnancy counselor will contact you shortly.
Q: Why should I choose Catholic Charities?
A: Commonwealth Catholic Charities has been providing counseling and adoption services since 1923. Our experienced, professional and compassionate staff understands the challenges you face and will help you find the answers that are right for you and your baby.
